This is the practice quiz we did in class Thursday and Friday, February 7-8. Note that on the actual quiz, the second part will be matching, not fill-in-the-blank. The quiz will be Wednesday (A Day) and Thursday (B Day), February 13-14. It covers the first of the four pages in the Unit 3 vocabulary.
Students will learn to express likes and dislikes, the use of auxiliary verbs, direct object pronouns, and weather expressions in Unit 3. They will also review present tense verb structures and adjective agreement.
The files below are (1) notes on the verb gustar, (2) the official vocabulary list for the unit, (3) the instructions for the first mini-project, and (4) the practice chart for conjugating the verbs in the unit.
Students have had time in class the last two periods to work on the mini-posters. They are due Tuesday, February 5, for A Day and Wednesday, February 6, for B Day.
The verb chart is a completion grade - students will get these back with errors highlighted and the opportunity to correct their mistakes for a quiz grade. The practice round is due Thursday, February 7, for A Day and Friday, February 8, for B Day.
The vocabulary for Unit 3 is below. Students are to fill in the English for the words/phrases they recognize and obvious cognates. Then they should look up the words they didn't know, marking them in some way: star, highlight, switch ink colors, etc. They should also double-check the words they filled in from memory. They must show the completed list to Ms. Sudderth in class Wednesday/Thursday, January 30-31, for full credit.
The exam for Unit 2 will be Thursday/Friday, January 24-25. The review exercises for the test, including an outline of topics and sections, are below.
The assignments in PowerSchool from January 7 on may still be turned in for late credit through Friday, January 25. Ms. Sudderth should be available before/after school through the week if you need another copy of either classwork or to make up the last quiz.
I am extending the extra credit opportunity until midnight, Wednesday January 16, because a number of students seemed to have trouble understanding the activity. You are to take physical paper/index cards and use them to label actual items in your home (see example picture below). Label a minimum of five items each in three different rooms and take pictures to send/share with me. You can send multiple emails if necessary or put them on a fast Google Slides file. It is recommended that you label as many items that you can from the vocabulary list and leave the labels in place for the rest of the unit as a passive study practice.
The last classwork of Quarter 2 is a packet of exercises to practice the vocabulary for houses, furniture, and prepositions of location - the topics for the final quiz of the quarter. If a student loses their packet, they need to see Ms. Sudderth for a replacement.
This packet is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday/Wednesday, January 15-16. It is worth two classwork grades.
The following assignments will be accepted for late credit through Friday, January 11. No other assignments may be made up unless you were absent long-term before winter break (see me for arranging to make up those if this applies to you).
- Classwork "Verb sentence practice"
- Classwork "La casa y los muebles"
The final quiz of Q2 will be Thursday/Friday, January 17-18. It will focus on the vocabulary highlighted in the unit list below (house, furniture, prepositions of location) and have the same format as the practice quiz below.
There is an extra credit opportunity that will add 10 points to this quiz score. To earn it, students must label at least three spaces/rooms in a house with a minimum of five words each from the unit vocabulary and take pictures to send to Ms. Sudderth at email@example.com. It is strongly recommended that students label every possible room/piece of furniture they can for study purposes. Students must send the pictures to Ms. Sudderth on or before Sunday, January 13, to earn the extra credit.
The following assignments will be accepted for late credit through December 21, the last day before winter break:
- presenting Performance Task 2, the family tree project
- Unit 1 and Regular Verbs packet
- Quiz 2.2 - verb chart on Unit 1 and regular verbs, treated as an open-notes quiz
- Classworks "Verb sentence practice" and "La casa y los muebles", available on Google Classroom
- Quiz 2.3 - in-class quiz on regular verbs
Students may see Ms. Sudderth before and after school to turn in late assignments or ask questions.
Mrs. Sudderth is a Spanish teacher at Jordan High School in Durham, NC.
